Minecraft in Elden Ring: The Lands Between Mashup Explained

By the Gamecodely editorial team · Updated

"Minecraft in Elden Ring" is a fan-made mashup called Minecraft in the Lands Between: you walk Elden Ring's world as your Minecraft player, with Minecraft's controls, blocks, tools and building, while Elden Ring draws your hand, hotbar and builds into its own picture. It is published on the Melty mashup platform, made with the open-source Universal Modder toolkit, and needs Elden Ring 2.7.1.0 or 2.7.1.1 plus Minecraft: Java Edition. It runs single-player and offline with Easy Anti-Cheat off and uses a copy of your save. It is unofficial and not affiliated with FromSoftware, Bandai Namco or Mojang.

What the mashup does

From the creator's description on Melty:

Feature How it works
Move Walk, sprint, jump and look around in first person with Minecraft's controls. Elden Ring's floors, walls and doors are solid.
Fight Hit Elden Ring enemies with whatever you hold. You share one health bar with the Tarnished: a Minecraft fall hurts both, and if the Tarnished dies, you die too.
Build You start with planks, cobblestone, stone bricks, glass, torches, ladders, a crafting table and stone tools. Defeated enemies drop more Minecraft materials. Your blocks sit on Elden Ring's ground and you can climb them.
Use the world When Elden Ring shows a prompt ("E: Open"), E does the Elden Ring action. With no prompt, E opens Minecraft's inventory. Esc opens Elden Ring's menu.
Saves It plays on its own copy of your Elden Ring save, made the first time you play.

Not in this version: riding Torrent, lifts, and online play.

What you need

Requirement Detail
Elden Ring PC version 2.7.1.0 or 2.7.1.1 (you must own it)
Minecraft Minecraft: Java Edition (you sign in once). The mashup sets up its own Minecraft 1.21.4 with Fabric
Launcher The official Melty app for Windows, from the creator's Melty page
Online None: Elden Ring starts offline with Easy Anti-Cheat off through ModEngine2, which comes with the mashup

How to play it (overview)

  1. Install the official Melty app on Windows and sign in.
  2. Open the Minecraft in the Lands Between page on Melty and press Play.
  3. Sign in to your Microsoft/Minecraft account the first time Minecraft starts.
  4. Play. Your normal Elden Ring save stays untouched because the mashup uses a copy.

Is it safe? Can I get banned?

  • It runs offline with Easy Anti-Cheat disabled, which is the standard way to use Elden Ring mods. Don't try to play online with modded files.
  • Your original save isn't changed, but back up your save folder anyway before modding.
  • Only download it from the creator's page. Avoid re-uploads that ask you to run unknown installers.

How it was made

The creator says it was made with Claude (Anthropic) using the Universal Modder toolkit. Universal Modder is an open-source kit that lets AI coding agents mod games and records "field notes" of what worked; its Elden Ring notes describe an offline route using a Rust DLL and the me3/ModEngine2 loader. The mashup's Elden Ring side is built on eldenring-rs, and Minecraft runs in Prism Launcher with Fabric. The code is GPL-3.0.

Other "Minecraft + Elden Ring" mods

  • EldenCraft is a separate Minecraft-and-Elden-Ring overhaul posted on Nexus Mods. It also runs Minecraft alongside Elden Ring through a launcher. It's a different project, so follow its own instructions.
  • Looking for the opposite, Elden Ring inside Minecraft? Search your mod launcher (CurseForge or Modrinth) for Elden Ring-themed bosses, weapons, resource packs and builds. Those run in normal Minecraft and don't touch Elden Ring.

Fan-made notice

Elden Ring is by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment; Minecraft is by Mojang Studios. Neither company makes or supports this mashup.
