AION 2 Essence Extraction Guide: Upgrade Path, Skills and Splendent Ruby
Essence Extraction is AION 2’s single gathering profession for ore, gems, logs, herbs, cooking ingredients and Odyle. You level one Novice track from 1–50, then take the [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty Skill quest: extract a Splendent Ruby and turn it in to Korius (Elyos) or Alzirr (Asmodian) to become Professional. Failed extractions still grant proficiency EXP; interruptions waste the attempt. Skill details below are limited to what two or more independent gathering guides agree on as of mid-October 2026.
How an extraction works
- Walk up to a node (ore vein, plant, floating Odyle orb, …) and interact.
- Each turn fills either a Success Gauge or a Failure Gauge; the first to fill wins.
- Success yields the material; success or failure still grants Essence Extraction EXP.
- If combat or another interrupt stops you, the attempt is lost — clear the area first.
- Odyle orbs are gathered in the air; stay airborne for the whole extract (the game lists this as Odyle Extraction).
Materials (six types, one skill)
Ore, gems, logs and Odyle use four grades (Standard → Fine → Pure → Radiant). Herbs use regular / Fresh. Cooking ingredients have a single grade. Starter regions called out by the in-game Get Route panel are Verteron (Elyos) and Altgard (Asmodians).
Novice → Professional upgrade

Ruby areas commonly listed for the hand-in: Elyos — Ellun River Midstream, Verteron Fortress Ruins, Destroyed Abyss Gate, Kraka Footpath. Asmodian — Dredgion Crash Site, Calderon Canyon, Tranein Highland, Silent Hill, Nameless Cemetery. Take Gem Seeker before you hunt if you have a Specialty point free.

Independent guides agree a sensible Novice plan is to raise all three Common skills to level 5 (the Novice cap) before specializing hard.
Specialty skills (per material)
Each material line costs 7 Specialty points to max (Seeker 1 + Plentiful Harvest 3 + Appraiser 3). Specialty points are scarce (~14 by Professional 50 across sources), so you cannot max every line.

Point-spend pattern many guides share (strategy, not a hard rule): unlock Odyle Seeker early (Odyle can Morph into other materials), add the Seeker for the craft you need, finish the Ruby upgrade, then deepen Odyle and one other line while finishing Common skills.
